The System
Stormway is the lip-in-line inlet equivalent of Kerbway based on 800 x 500 grates and a cover. In addition to the Manning grate, Stormway includes the vaned Macadam grate and Stormcover. Inlets are calibrated for 100mm child safe kerb openings to (Qudm 7.05.3). The 500 deep units require an inlet lintel setback of between 50 and 200mm behind the kerb line depending on channel width. The inlets are suitable for all classes of road from arterials and highways to residential roads and townhousing.
Hydraulics
The Macadam vaned grate is the most hydraulically efficient but the Manning with 17mm wide slots is the most pedestrian friendly, comfortably satisfying pedestrian safety requirements of AS 3996 Clause 3.3.5. As a result the Manning, rather than the hydraulically challenged cover, is the preferred unit for residential areas as well as other pedestrian precincts. Both grates perform well across the range of approach grades from 0.25% to 16%.
Capture Charts
Reliable capture curves covering the range to 2500 L/s of roadway flow are derived from comprehensive half scale testing at the Urban Water Resources Centre of the University of South Australia. An interactive capture design aid is also downloadable.
Design Drawings
The manual includes full construction drawings for inlets with 5 kerb inlet lengths from 1000 to 4800mm.
